A sponsor must have attended a Walk to Emmaus A sponsor must be able to articulate their walk experiences A sponsor must be able to explain the particulars of a Walk (Please see the Sponsor's Guide to the Application) A sponsor must reduce outside distractions for the Pilgrim A sponsor must pray for and edify their Pilgrim The word “Sponsor” means “takes responsibility for Pilgrims" 2. Aim of Sponsor
Is to sponsor those who are church leaders or
potential leaders, members who are the backbone of the church, members To not live vicariously through the pilgrim to relive the sponsor's walk experiences. It is to bring spiritual revitalization to pilgrims The revitalization of the pilgrim will hopefully bring new life and vision to; CHURCH HOME WORKPLACE COMMUNITY The aim of the sponsor is to build up the Body of Christ 3. Sponsors Responsibilities Pray for your pilgrim’s openness to God’s call to discipleship Meet with the pilgrim and discuss the parameters of the walk Share sponsors walk experiences Complete the required paper work Ask spouses permission and offer them support Get the pilgrim to the babe chick and the community meetings Encourage the spouse to attend the next walk if the pilgrim agrees 4. Fourth Day Pilgrimage that follows a walk Connections to walk mates, community, reunion group The Heart of Emmaus Piety – Giving our hearts to Christ Reunion groups, 2-8 members: men, women, mixed Accountability, to the group, encouragement, support. (See your Service Card) God’s love in Christ. Listen, celebrate and reinforce Study – Giving our Minds to Christ Informed Christians are mature responsible Christians We have the mind and heart of Christ through knowing the scriptures Knowing about the world and its needs (local church, outreach and missions) Action – Giving our hands to Christ Reunion Group activities Mission of your church in the community Support Walks – set up/ outside servants/ cleanup teams Support team meetings – lunches, agape Deepen friendships – caring, loving, counseling Letters to pilgrims and follow-ups Become a giving, sharing partner to your local church Train leaders to become effective and intentional participants in church
Emmaus provides the spark, but support of our local church, family and community are the ultimate recipients of the Emmaus Movement.
